Self-Watering Upcycled Tin Can Planter

by Eadubs

These printed inserts can be put into old tin cans that might otherwise end up in the trash or recycling to convert them into functional, fashionable planters.  There are two different sizes, one for standard 15oz. vegetable/soup cans and one for the larger 28oz. cans, though you can probably scale these files to fit a specific or odd sized can. They an both be printed in the orientation shown in the last picture without supports or a brim (0.2mm quality setting for layer height).  The planters allow for self-watering by filling the tin can through the hole in the side of the planter to allow the soil to soak up water from the bottom.  Alternatively, these planters are also great for succulents and other plants that like to be flooded occasionally, but not have the soil constantly sit in water. Since the planters have excellent drainage, are shorter than the tin cans, and are easily removable, you can flood the soil, wait a few minutes for the excess water to drain to the bottom of the can and then remove the can and dump the excess water.  I have also included the Solidworks files if you'd like to remix them to fit your needs.
