Modified Infinity Cube with Unexpected Motion

by Nathaly 520

Hi! I used to print regular infinity cubes, and one day I got curious about how the hinges were arranged—so I modified the design by flipping the two side-facing hinges to face inward instead of out. To my surprise, it still folds… but it also does something totally unexpected : 🌀 It makes a kind of “U-turn” during folding, 🔄 The folding direction reverses , 🧊 It enters a weird but stable 2×2×2 cube state , 📐 And it can do a diagonal rotation to enter and exit that state! This motion seems impossible on the regular cube. I don’t know what I’ve done exactly—maybe I accidentally discovered a new mechanical configuration? If anyone has insight on how this works or why it behaves like this, I’d love to learn more! I’m sharing this in case anyone else finds it as interesting as I do. Print in place, no supports, just like the usual cubes. Thanks in advance for any ideas!
